What is Music Therapy?
- Music therapy is the use of music to address non-musical goals aimed to improve physical, cognitive, speech/language, emotional, and social areas of need.
- In order to practice music therapy the music therapist must be board certified after receiving at least a bachelor’s degree in music therapy and completing 1200 hours of clinical experience.
- Through music therapy, a music therapist can accomplish numerous goals with various disorders, diseases, or hardships. We are trained to work with every population from neo-natal to hospice, pregnancy to dementia, autism to depression.
- Music Therapy is processed in every area of the brain.
- Music creates a non-threatening environment.
- The majority of people enjoy music.
- Music Therapy is an enjoyable experience and rarely viewed as “work” by the client.
- Music Therapists individualize their treatment plans according to each client’s individual needs.
